The BJP's latest organisational reshuffle has brought a significant development for Jharkhand, with Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Verma being appointed as a national secretary in the party's new team announced by national president Nitin Nabin on Monday.
Verma is the only leader from Jharkhand to find a place in the newly announced national organisation. His elevation takes him from a key role in the state unit to a responsibility within the BJP's central organisational structure.
Verma, who has been serving as a vice president of the Jharkhand BJP, has previously worked as the party's general secretary in the state. His active involvement in organisational activities and election management is believed to have played a role in his elevation to the national team.
During the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Verma was given charge of the Santhal Pargana region. The party also entrusted him with organisational responsibilities in different areas during the Bihar and West Bengal Assembly elections.
His appointment assumes added significance because he is the sole representative from Jharkhand in the new national team. BJP leaders and workers in the state have welcomed the decision, viewing it as an indication of greater recognition for Jharkhand's organisational role within the party.
Verma's responsibilities have not been limited to politics. He is also associated with the education sector and serves as the chief manager of Sarla Birsa Educational Institution, which runs schools and a university.
The BJP's broader reshuffle has brought several other leaders into important national positions. Manpreet Singh Badal has been appointed national vice president, while Tarun Chugh has been given charge as national office in-charge.
Sanjay Bhatia, Satish Poonia and Biplab Kumar Deb have been appointed national general secretaries. Sandeep Pathak, former Delhi mayor Jai Prakash and Arun Yadav have been given responsibilities as national secretaries.
The restructuring is aimed at strengthening the party's organisational machinery ahead of the next electoral cycle, with experienced leaders and regional faces being assigned responsibilities at the national level.
For Jharkhand, however, the key takeaway from the reshuffle is Pradeep Verma's elevation. Having worked extensively in the state organisation and election campaigns, Verma will now have an opportunity to contribute to the BJP's national strategy and organisational planning.
His new role could also increase Jharkhand's visibility within the party's central decision-making and organisational framework, while giving the state unit a direct link to the BJP's national organisation.
