JPSC Exam Irregularities: EX Chairman Khiangte questioned 8 hours again summoned on Wednesday

Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Chairman L. Khiangte appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday for nearly eight hours of questioning in connection with the alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination and other recruitment tests. He has been directed to appear again before the investigating agency on Wednesday for further interrogation.
According to sources, CID investigators questioned Khiangte on several key aspects of the recruitment process, including his alleged role in the selection of a blacklisted company for conducting examinations. He was also asked about his links with Abhay Tiwari, the former marketing manager of TSR Data Processing Pvt. Ltd. (TDPL)—the agency at the centre of the alleged scam—who is currently serving as a Food Supply Officer.
Investigators also sought explanations on how Deputy Examination Controller Shweta Gupta continued to function at the JPSC despite her transfer, and questioned him about complaints of irregularities in the examination process that reportedly surfaced as early as January.
Sources said Khiangte denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that all decisions were taken in accordance with established rules. He also distanced himself from the complaints regarding alleged irregularities, stating that he had no specific knowledge of them and that any such complaints, if received, would have been forwarded for appropriate action.
The CID had issued a notice to the former JPSC chairman on Monday, directing him to join the investigation.
Last week, CID teams conducted searches at Khiangte's official residence on Kanke Road and his chamber at the JPSC office. During the operation, which lasted around five hours, investigators examined several documents and questioned officials. Simultaneous searches were also carried out at the office of TSR Data Processing Pvt. Ltd. (TDPL), the agency responsible for conducting the examinations under scrutiny.
During the investigation, the CID seized recruitment-related documents, OMR sheets, and digital evidence from computers at the JPSC office. Important records connected to the examination process were also recovered from the TDPL office.
So far, the CID has arrested 10 persons, including Deputy Examination Controller Shweta Gupta, in connection with the alleged recruitment scam. Five of the accused are currently in CID custody and are being interrogated as investigators continue to probe the alleged irregularities in the examination process.
