Shekhar Suman /Deoghar: Devotees visiting Baba Baidyanath Dham during this year's Shravani Fair are set to get a major convenience with the introduction of a free locker facility. To address concerns over the safety of personal belongings during the pilgrimage, the district administration and temple authorities have completed the construction of a modern locker room at the Queue Complex near the temple. The facility is now ready and awaits its formal inauguration. It is expected to be opened before the Shravani Fair begins on July 31.
Baba Baidyanath Dham, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country, attracts millions of devotees every year. During the holy month of Shravan, pilgrims from across India, especially Kanwariyas carrying Ganga water from Sultanganj after a 105-km barefoot journey, arrive in Deoghar to offer jalabhishek to Lord Shiva. The massive influx of devotees results in long queues and heavy crowds throughout the temple town.
One of the biggest challenges faced by devotees during the fair is keeping their belongings safe while waiting for hours in the queue. Mobile phones, wallets, identity cards, cash, keys and other valuables often remain with them throughout the journey. Every year, complaints of lost or stolen mobile phones and other belongings are reported, causing inconvenience and anxiety among pilgrims.
To overcome this problem, a locker room has been set up at the Queue Complex, around 300 metres from the temple. Devotees will be able to deposit their mobile phones, wallets, Aadhaar cards, keys and other small valuables before entering the temple. After depositing their belongings, they will receive the locker key and can proceed for darshan and jalabhishek without worrying about their valuables. They can collect their belongings after returning the key.
The facility will be provided completely free of cost, and no fee will be charged for using the lockers. Temple authorities believe the initiative will significantly reduce incidents of theft and misplaced belongings while allowing devotees to focus entirely on their prayers and pilgrimage.Officials said the locker room is fully ready, and only its formal inauguration remains. The administration plans to make the facility operational before the Shravani Fair begins on July 31, ensuring a safer and more convenient experience for the lakhs of devotees expected to visit Baba Dham this year.
