Expressing concern over Jharkhand’s high Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses, the Union Minister urged the state government to take focused measures to bring losses down to sustainable levels. He also called for efforts to restructure the debt burden of the state’s power distribution companies.

Khattar stressed the importance of clearing outstanding dues owed by government departments and asked the state to establish a robust mechanism for regular payments. He specifically directed that prepaid meters installed at government establishments be converted and operationalised by August 31, 2026.

The minister also reviewed the progress of smart meter deployment and urged the state to ensure complete installation for high-load consumers, including industrial and commercial users, by the same deadline. He further advised accelerating smart meter installation for other consumer categories.

On future energy requirements, Khattar assessed the state’s resource adequacy plans and intra-state transmission network expansion, highlighting the need to prepare for rising power demand in the coming years.

The meeting also examined the status of electrification efforts under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA). The Union Minister directed officials to expedite on-grid electrification for tribal households and ensure timely implementation of the programme.

Reviewing the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and the PM-KUSUM scheme, Khattar urged the state government to accelerate execution and achieve its targets. He also advised prioritising rooftop solar installations on government buildings, noting that greater use of solar power would help reduce electricity procurement costs and ease the financial burden on the state exchequer.

The review reflected the Centre’s focus on improving the efficiency of power distribution, expanding renewable energy adoption, and strengthening infrastructure to meet Jharkhand’s growing energy needs.
