
Deoghar: In a major crackdown on cybercrime, Deoghar Police arrested three alleged cyber fraudsters during a raid conducted as part of an ongoing drive against online criminals. The action was carried out on June 1 under the direction of Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar and the supervision of Cyber DSP Kailash Prasad Mahto.
According to police, a tip-off revealed that a group of cyber criminals was impersonating customer care representatives of Flipkart, Amazon, Airtel Payments Bank and PhonePe to deceive unsuspecting people. Investigators also found that the accused were allegedly using fake mobile numbers to cheat victims on the pretext of facilitating benefits under the PM Kisan Yojana and arranging loans.Acting on the information, police conducted a raid and arrested three suspects. Preliminary examination of the mobile phones and SIM cards recovered from them indicated their involvement in cyber fraud activities.The arrested accused have been identified as Rajan Kumar Mandal, 25, a resident of Tarabahal in Jamtara district; Vikas Mandal, 36, a resident of Kasitand in Jamtara district; and Rohit Mandal, 23, a resident of Bara Nawada in Deoghar district.Police said the accused allegedly posed as customer care executives of Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm and lured users with promises of cashback offers. Victims were reportedly persuaded to create PhonePe gift cards, which were later redeemed by the fraudsters. The accused are also suspected of impersonating Airtel Payments Bank officials, misleading customers into believing their bank cards had been blocked and then extracting money on the pretext of reactivating them.
During the operation, police seized seven mobile phones and seven SIM cards from the accused. Further investigation is underway, and the confiscated electronic devices are being examined for additional evidence. The raid was carried out by a team comprising Sub-Inspector Bisheshwar Kumar of Cyber Police Station, Assistant Sub-Inspector Shashibhushan Rai and personnel from Madhupur Police Station.
