
Ranchi: Authorities in Ranchi stepped up action against unsafe school transport on Tuesday, as the Transport Department and Traffic Police launched a joint inspection drive targeting overloaded vans and buses. The operation was led by Traffic DSP Pramod Kesari along with DTO Akhilesh Kumar.
The drive covered several parts of the city, where over 100 school vans were checked. A significant number of these vehicles were found exceeding passenger limits. In addition, some school buses were also reported to be violating safety regulations.
Officials imposed heavy penalties on those found flouting the rules. Inspections included verification of vehicle fitness, permits, driver credentials, and essential safety equipment like first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and speed control systems. Several vehicles failed to meet the required standards.
Speaking on the issue, Pramod Kesari stressed that student safety is non-negotiable and warned that overloading poses serious accident risks. He assured continued strict enforcement.
DTO Akhilesh Kumar noted that the operation was launched following multiple complaints about overcrowded school vehicles. He indicated that authorities will continue to conduct sudden checks in the future.
The administration has also appealed to parents to remain cautious and ensure that their children use only compliant and safe transport. Strict measures will remain in place against those who disregard the rules.
