
Ranchi:The 23rd annual conference of the Jharkhand Ophthalmology Society, titled JHOSCON 2026, began on Friday at Swarnbhoomi (Purulia Road) with the participation of leading eye specialists from across the country. The event brought together around 200 ophthalmologists from both government and private sectors in Jharkhand to discuss modern surgical techniques and emerging treatment practices.
Around 60–70 national speakers delivered sessions on complex subjects such as oculoplasty, squint correction, cornea, cataract, and retina surgeries. Through surgical videos and detailed presentations, experts highlighted the latest Preferred Practice Patterns, aiming to enhance the overall quality of eye care services in the state.
Chairperson of the Scientific Committee, Dr Bharti Kashyap, said that for the first time an AIOS laboratory titled “Connect” was organized on the opening day. Four microscopes were installed to provide hands-on training to nearly 50 postgraduate students and senior ophthalmologists. Participants learned advanced surgical techniques including phaco cataract surgery, IPCL, and iris claw lens procedures.
The conference also featured the “Dr Bharti Kashyap Physical Poster” session and the “Dr Manjul Pant Gold Medal” competitive video session, where several ophthalmologists from Jharkhand presented research papers and surgical innovations. A recorded video symposium showcased complex eye surgeries performed by renowned surgeons from across India.
The event’s scientific sessions were coordinated by Dr Bharti Kashyap, Dr B. P. Kashyap, convenor Dr Pritis Pronoy, and Dr Rahul Prasad, along with members of the Ranchi Ophthalmic Forum.
The official inauguration of the conference will take place on February 14 at 6:00 pm in the presence of Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari and Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh
