Latehar (Jharkhand)- In a major blow to Left-Wing Extremism, nine cadres of the banned Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) surrendered before police and security forces in Latehar district on Monday.
The group included four sub-zonal commanders, each with a Rs 5 lakh bounty, and another carrying a Rs 3 lakh reward. Police officials said this marks the largest single surrender of JJMP cadres in the state’s history.
Among the surrendered militants was JJMP’s top zonal commander, Ravindra Yadav, who faces 14 criminal cases and a Rs 5 lakh reward. He gave up two AK-47s, three rifles, and over 1,200 cartridges. Other commanders — Akhilesh Ravindra Yadav, Baldev Ganjhu, Mukesh Ram Yadav, Pawan alias Ram Prasad, and area commanders Dhruv, Shravan Singh, and Mukesh Ganjhu — also laid down arms, handing over additional rifles and ammunition.
Police officials claimed that the surrender, facilitated under the state government’s rehabilitation policy, has virtually eliminated JJMP’s presence in the Latehar region. The ceremony, held at Latehar Police Headquarters, was attended by senior police and CRPF officials, including CRPF IG Saket Singh and IG Operations Michaelraj S.
Since January 2025, security forces in Latehar have arrested 75 Maoists and carried out several successful operations, including the killing or capture of top JJMP leaders.
