Ranchi: A growing web of tangled overhead wires across key roads in the city has become a serious safety threat for residents and commuters. In areas such as Kadru, Main Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, and Club Road, electric poles are so thickly covered with cables that many liken them to a spider’s web.
Locals note that while electricity lines are fewer, the majority of the wires belong to private Wi-Fi and internet providers. Instead of removing faulty or unused cables, companies often add new ones, leaving the old clutter in place. This unchecked practice has created a hazardous mess, with wires drooping dangerously close to streets and footpaths.
The risk of electrocution adds to the danger. During short circuits, residents report that current can flow into these communication cables, potentially reaching household internet setups and posing a grave safety threat.
Pedestrians and motorists also face the risk of accidents, as low-hanging wires obstruct movement and create constant hazards. Citizens fear that without urgent intervention, the situation could lead to tragic incidents.
Residents have appealed to the authorities to regulate internet cabling, clear redundant wires, and enforce strict safety measures before the problem escalates further.
