Ranchi — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Sub-Post Master from Manoharpur in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district for accepting a bribe of ?20,000 from a commission agent working with small savings schemes in the postal department.
According to CBI officials, the agent had mobilized deposits worth several lakhs, and the accused postal official allegedly demanded a share of the commission earned from these deposits.
The Sub-Post Master was caught red-handed while accepting the first installment of the demanded bribe, which was negotiated down to ?20,000 from an initial demand of ?1,18,000 — calculated as 20% of the Recurring Deposit commission and 75% of the Standardised Agency System (SAS) commission.
The arrest was made based on a complaint received on July 21.
On the same day, in a separate case, a Special CBI Court in Patna sentenced a postal department accountant, Lohra Bhagat, to two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him ?1.10 lakh. Bhagat was found guilty of drawing salaries from both the Indian Postal Department and another Bihar government department between 2010 and 2013.
