Nine criminals from the Uttam Yadav gang have been arrested by the Jharkhand Police for their involvement in the daylight firing at a jewellery shop in Hazaribagh on June 22, as well as for issuing threats to local businessmen.
The arrests were made on Thursday while the gang was allegedly plotting another major crime in the city.
The gang leader, Uttam Yadav, had earlier claimed responsibility for the attack by posting a video on social media. The incident sparked panic among traders, leading to a complete market shutdown and a candlelight march by local shopkeepers.
According to Hazaribagh SP Anjani Anjan, police received information that armed gang members were riding a black bike and an SUV, intending to carry out another attack.
A special police team set up a blockade near Carmel School, where both vehicles were intercepted after a brief chase. Seven suspects were taken into custody.
Interrogations revealed they were acting under the instructions of Uttam Yadav. One of the accused, Shakti Giri alias Psycho Tiger from Pathalgadda, Chatra, was identified as the shooter at the jewellery shop.
Following further investigation, two more suspects were arrested from Karamtoli in Ranchi.
Police seized two pistols (9mm and 7.65mm), eight live cartridges, and several mobile phones used to coordinate the crimes.
The arrested individuals include Manish Yadav, Mukesh Kumar Soni, Rahul Kumar Verma, Shubham Agarwal, Golu Kumar, Ravi Roshan, Nitish Kumar, Badal Kumar Singh, and Shakti Giri. They are all between 18 and 25 years of age.
After the arrests, the accused were paraded through the streets of Hazaribagh.
SP Anjan warned: "We will not tolerate anyone spreading fear with weapons in Hazaribagh. The peace of the city will be protected at all costs."
