Man killed in road accident, locals block highway for compensation

Ranchi: A tragic road accident took place last night near Kahaldiha Mor in Baliyapur police station area, resulting in the death of 55-year-old sitting master Asil Mahto. Another person was seriously injured in the crash. Following the incident, angry villagers blocked the Baliyapur-Govindpur main road for nearly four hours. Meanwhile, the family of Asil Mahto is devastated and grieving deeply.

According to reports, Asil Mahto, a resident of Nipenia Kuludih, was returning home late at night on his motorcycle after visiting a relative. Near Kahaldiha Mor, a speeding four-wheeler vehicle collided head-on with his bike. Asil Mahto died on the spot, while the person riding with him was critically injured and admitted to a hospital. Mahto was the sole breadwinner of his family and worked as a sitting master by profession.

Upon receiving news of the accident, a large crowd of local villagers gathered and blocked the Baliyapur-Govindpur main road. Traffic remained completely halted for about four hours. The villagers demanded immediate compensation and assistance from the government and administration.

Baliyapur police station in-charge along with police personnel reached the spot immediately after receiving information. Baliyapur block officer Praveen Kumar Singh also arrived at the scene and tried to calm the angry crowd. He assured the villagers that appropriate compensation would be provided and said that the process would begin soon.

Sindri MLA Bablu Mahto also visited the site and assured the victim’s family of all possible support. He expressed concern over frequent accidents on this road and stressed the need for concrete measures to improve road safety. Following the assurances from the MLA and administrative officials, the villagers lifted the blockade late at night, and normal traffic flow resumed.
