CM Soren Lays Foundation for Multi-Storey Tribal Hostel, Announces Ambedkar Libraries in All Districts

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a 520-bed multi-storey hostel for Scheduled Tribe students at the Tribal College Hostel Complex in Karamtoli, Ranchi. Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Minister reaffirmed his government's commitment to strengthening education and supporting students pursuing higher studies.

In a major announcement, CM Soren declared that public libraries named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar will be established in every district of Jharkhand. These libraries will be stocked with a wide variety of books and magazines to foster a rich academic environment across the state.

“Students should concentrate solely on their education—the government will take care of everything else,” Soren said. He emphasized the state's support for students preparing for competitive exams and professional courses such as medicine, engineering, and law.

He also highlighted the Guruji Credit Card Yojana, under which economically disadvantaged students can access collateral-free loans of up to ?15 lakh to pursue higher education in professional fields.

The Chief Minister assured that students residing in the new hostel will be provided nutritious meals three times a day, and that the facility will include cooks, security personnel, and all essential academic resources. “There will be no need to bring food from home. Everything will be taken care of,” he said.

Calling the project a major stride toward inclusive education, Soren noted that all hostels under the Welfare Department will be renovated to provide a better learning and living experience for tribal students.

He also pointed to significant improvements in the state’s education infrastructure, saying, “Today, students in government institutions are achieving results that rival those of private schools. Many students from CM Schools of Excellence scored above 90% in this year’s board exams—this is the direction we’re moving in.”

The event was attended by Minister Chandra Linda, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari, Secretaries Kripanand Jha and Arwa Rajkamal, Tribal Welfare Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha, and other senior officials.
