Ranchi: In a major boost to Jharkhand’s railway infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated three newly redeveloped railway stations—Govindpur Road, Rajmahal, and Shankarpur—under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a national initiative to modernize railway stations and enhance passenger amenities.
The Govindpur Road station, located on the Hatia–Rourkela rail section, has been upgraded at a cost of ?6.65 crore. The revamped station now features a modern station building, spacious waiting halls, advanced ticket counters, high-level platforms, platform shelters, a foot overbridge, lifts, ramps for accessibility, and enhanced lighting. The addition of four railway lines is expected to improve traffic management and passenger flow.
Rajmahal station, under the Eastern Railway’s Malda Division, has been transformed with an investment of ?7.03 crore. Designed with an airport-like layout, the station now includes improved lighting, upgraded facilities for long-distance train halts, and redesigned pedestrian pathways. Renovated waiting rooms and new amenities such as ramps and specially designed toilets for differently-abled passengers have also been introduced. Aesthetic enhancements include indoor video walls, stylish signage, and sculptures to elevate the overall travel experience.
Shankarpur station, on the Jasidih–Madhupur rail section and now the nearest station to AIIMS Deoghar, has been developed at a cost of ?7.7 crore. The station offers upgraded platforms, digital timetables, new passenger sheds, modern ticket counters, and a comfortable waiting hall. Additional improvements include a renovated foot overbridge, an underpass for easier access, and reorganized parking facilities to ensure a smoother and safer transit experience.
These redevelopments represent a significant step forward in Indian Railways’ modernization efforts and are expected to enhance connectivity, comfort, and convenience for passengers across Jharkhand.
