Jharkhand Assembly extends best wishes to newly elected President Draupadi Murmu

Ranchi: The monsoon session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly began on Friday with Speaker Rabindranath Mahto congratulating former Governor Draupadi Murmu through the House for being elected as the 15th President of the country. He expressed hope that with Draupadi Murmu becoming the President, the dignity of this highest constitutional post will attain a new record.

Draupadi Murmu is the first woman representative from the tribal community to sit on the country’s top constitutional post. She had served as the first woman governor of Jharkhand. Her tenure lasted from 18 May 2015 to 12 July 2021. He expressed confidence that Draupadi Murmu as the President would become the custodian of Indian cultural values and a pioneer of tribal upliftment.

He said that there is no doubt that her election as the President will strengthen the empowerment of the common people as
well as the tribal and women's society in particular, which will prove to be meaningful for the country’s tribal community and Indian democracy.

The Speaker said that her presence as the constitutional head of the country is proof of a healthy, ideal and conscious democracy for every Indian, in which any person can become the first citizen of the country from the last line. Congratulating Neha Tirkey, the Congress candidate elected in the Mandar assembly bye-election, the Speaker expressed the hope that she would present herself as an ideal public representative in the House by living up to the hopes and beliefs of the people of this state.

He said that the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association International Conference to be held in Halifax, Canada from August 20 to 26 will be accompanied by Niral Purti and Dr Lambodar Mahto as observers. The Speaker said that in this journey of the democratic system, Jharkhand Legislative Assembly has tried to solve the problems of the common people and fulfill the expectations of the people of the state.

The link of the same effort has to be carried forward responsibly, with full awareness and sensitivity and sincerely uniting everyone. The Speaker said “ today we all are starting this Monsoon session, so we have to keep this fact in our mind and heart that about 40 percent less rainfall has been received in the state so far in this Monsoon season.

Today, when everyone will sit in this biggest Panchayat of the state and discuss different subjects of the state, then the pain of the farmer brothers will also have to be included in their discussions so that a meaningful solution to their sorrows can be found through this House.”

He expressed the hope that constructive cooperation of the opposition would be received in the conduct of the current session in the interest of the state. This six-day Monsoon season may be short, but it is qualitatively of great importance. Everyone together has to make good use of the time of this session and move forward in the direction of fulfilling the aspirations of the people he said.

The Speaker also nominated the Business Advisory Committee and the presiding officers for the monsoon session. At the same time, a copy of the Action Taken Report on the assurances given by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister in the last session was laid on the Table of the House.
