Hearing held in HC over increasing punishment to Lalu Yadav in Deoghar treasury case

Ranchi: A bench headed by Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyay of the High Court heard the petition for increasing the sentence of six convicts including Lalu Prasad related to the illegal withdrawal from the Deoghar treasury of fodder scam. In the case, the court ordered the removal of the name of a convicted Phoolchand Singh. 

An intervention petition was filed and the court was told that Phoolchand Singh had died. After which the court ordered to remove his name from this petition. At the same time, in relation to a convicted RK Rana in this case, the court has sought a death report from Jail Superintendent Birsa Munda Prison.

The court fixed the matter for a hearing after 2 weeks. Prashant Pallav and Navneet Sahai argued on behalf of the CBI. The CBI has filed a petition in the court saying that these six convicts have been sentenced to three and a half years in the case of illegal withdrawal from the Deoghar treasury. The CBI has filed a petition demanding maximum punishment for them.
