Gen Bipin Rawat addresses ex army men rally in Chainpur of Gumla

Gumla: Chief of army staff General Bipin Rawat today participated in the rally of ex-army men which was held at Chainpur which is also the birthplace of Paramveer Chakra recipient Albert Ekka. In the programme, General Rawat felicitated the widow of Albert Ekka Balamdina Ekka and also gave a cheque of Rs 51000 to her. 

Addressing the programme General Rawat said that in a very small age Albert Ekka got the opportunity to show his heroics in the war of 1971 with Pakistan. Recalling his valour he said that when the unit was moving forward from Gangasagar a machine gun of the enemy was inflicting damage on the security personnel seeing which Albert Ekka broke the mouth of the machine gun and prevented heavy damage. Moving forward Albert Ekka also captured a bunker of the enemy and despite being injured he kept helping his army men due to which the nation was able to achieve victory in the fight. 

General Rawat said that he was proud of his wife and other family members and is also a matter of pride for the entire Gumla residents. He said that is due to the bravery of one man that entire Chainpur and Gumla region is known in the country and the nation is proud of the land of the brave. He assured that all the jawans of the area would bravely do their duty. Gen Rawat said that jawans
will work with dedication and will achieve success in their mission.

He said that the jawan who were giving maximum time to the army and making the army proud even the army was proud of them and hoped that they too would set an example in their area and through their discipline and acts will encourage the others. He asked the jawans to participate in large numbers in the army and show their bravery. Brigadier B G Pathak of the army welfare board also addressed the function.

Earlier General Rawat was given a guard of honour at the helipad built at Albert Ekka college. He also garlanded the statue of Albert Ekka located at Bazartand. In the function 18 women and three divyang ex-army men were felicitated and given cheques
