Two Arrested for Mobile Theft at Ranchi Sadar Hospital, Two Phones Recovered

Police have arrested two men for allegedly stealing mobile phones from the area around Sadar Hospital in Ranchi and recovered two stolen handsets from their possession.

The arrests followed a police surveillance drive launched in response to repeated reports of mobile phone thefts around the hospital premises. Both accused are being sent to judicial custody, police said.

According to police, several incidents of mobile theft had been reported from the Sadar Hospital area. Taking the matter seriously, the Senior Superintendent of Police directed Tiger Mobile personnel, PCR teams and MICO personnel deployed around the hospital to maintain special surveillance and keep a close watch on suspected activities.

During the surveillance operation on September 18, 2026, police received information that two suspected mobile phone thieves had been caught inside the Sadar Hospital premises.

A police team reached the spot, verified the information and initiated legal proceedings. A case was subsequently registered at Lower Bazar police station under Case No. 161/2026, dated September 19, under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The two arrested accused have been identified as Shahbaz Qureshi, 32, son of Mohammad Mahmood Qureshi, a resident of Guddi Chowk Qureshi Mohalla under Lower Bazar police station, and Mohammad Dilshan alias Tillu, 18, son of Mohammad Parvez, a resident of Islam Nagar, Pathalkudwa, also under Lower Bazar police station.

Police said two stolen mobile phones — a Realme Pro and an Infinix 5G handset — were recovered from the accused.

Officials said the surveillance campaign around Sadar Hospital will continue in view of the repeated complaints of mobile phone thefts in the area. Police teams have been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance to prevent further incidents and identify others who may be involved.

The police team involved in the operation included Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar Rajak, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ajay Kumar Singh, Tiger Mobile personnel ASI/770 Salimuddin Ansari and ASI/2861 Vinay Kumar Yadav, along with armed personnel from the police station.

Further legal proceedings against the two accused are underway.
