Adah Sharma Says ‘The Kerala Story’ Opened Doors to Bigger and More Challenging Roles

Mumbai: Actress Adah Sharma says the success of The Kerala Story has been a turning point in her career, helping her earn the trust of filmmakers and land more diverse and demanding roles.

Speaking to IANS, Adah dismissed the notion that actresses often struggle to find strong roles after delivering a major hit.

"I actually experienced that once you have a hit, then more people trust you with bigger stuff," she said.

The actress added that the film's success has brought her the kind of opportunities every performer hopes for.

"After The Kerala Story, the doors opened in a big way. I'm getting the kind of roles every actor dreams of—characters that are challenging, unpredictable and completely different from one another," she said.

Adah rose to nationwide prominence with The Kerala Story, in which she portrayed Shalini, a former nursing student from Kerala whose life takes a tragic turn as she becomes entangled with terrorism. The film traced her transformation from an innocent young woman to a victim of radicalisation.

The 34-year-old actress is now set to make her Marathi cinema debut with Gajra, a film based on true events. Directed by Shreyas Jadhav, the movie is scheduled for release in 2027.

Adah made her acting debut with the 2008 horror film 1920 and later appeared in films such as Hasee Toh Phasee, Heart Attack, S/O Satyamurthy, Kshanam, and the Commando franchise alongside Vidyut Jammwal.

She was most recently seen opposite Manoj Bajpayee in Governor, directed by Chinmay D. Mandlekar. The film is inspired by the events surrounding India's 1990 economic crisis and explores the institutional relationship between the Reserve Bank of India and the Government of India.
