Robert Pattinson likens his role in ‘The Odyssey’ to Jacob in ‘Twilight’

Los Angeles- Actor Robert Pattinson has compared his character in The Odyssey to Taylor Lautner's Jacob from the The Twilight Saga, saying audiences may find themselves rooting for his character.

Speaking to MTV UK, Pattinson said his character, Antinous, is similar to Jacob because both are competing for the affection of the story's female lead.

"I think they will be rooting for him. I keep comparing it—it's kind of like Jacob in Twilight," he said.

Explaining the comparison, Pattinson added, "What The Odyssey is about — Penelope just can't make her mind up between the two guys and I'm just trying to help her make a decision. It's like, 'It's fine. He's dead, get over it.'"

Based on one of the oldest surviving works of literature, The Odyssey follows Odysseus as he faces a series of mythical challenges during his decade-long journey home after the Trojan War to reunite with his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus.

Pattinson plays Antinous, one of the suitors seeking Penelope's hand in marriage while also attempting to claim Odysseus' throne in the kingdom of Ithaca.

The film features an ensemble cast including Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez and Mia Goth.

Pattinson rose to global fame in 2008 with his portrayal of vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, based on Twilight. Throughout the film series, Edward and Jacob Black competed for the love of Bella Swan.

Over the years, Pattinson has built a career spanning blockbuster films and independent cinema, earning recognition for portraying a wide range of unconventional characters across different genres.
