Mumbai: Actress Saumya Tandon believes that fitness is a lifelong commitment and should never be put on hold, regardless of circumstances. She says staying active is essential—even while dealing with challenges such as knee injuries, pregnancy or sciatica.
Currently enjoying the success of her latest film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, Saumya took to Instagram to share a series of images showcasing her fitness routine. The pictures featured her practising aerial yoga, planks, TRX workouts, Pilates and traditional yoga.
Reflecting on her journey, Saumya said yoga, Pilates and weight training have remained constant over the years.
“Over the years… yoga, Pilates, weight training. Never stop. Even with knee injury, pregnancy, sciatica—whatever situation you are thrown into, just be at it. Your body is the best investment in the world. Women lift weights,” she wrote.
Talking about Dhurandhar, the film boasts an ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi, with Manav Gohil, Danish Pandor, Gaurav Gera, Naveen Kaushik and Saumya Tandon in supporting roles. The film is inspired by real-life events linked to geopolitical tensions and covert operations by India’s R&AW, including references to Operation Lyari, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and crackdowns on criminal syndicates.
Saumya began her career in modelling and was named Femina Cover Girl First Runner-Up in 2006. She later appeared in the Afghan television serial Khushi (2008), playing the lead role of an Afghan woman doctor.
She has also made a mark as a television host, co-hosting Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout with Shah Rukh Khan, hosting Dance India Dance for three seasons, and co-hosting the Bournvita Quiz Contest with Derek O’Brien. In cinema, she appeared in Jab We Met as Roop, Kareena Kapoor’s sister.
Saumya gained immense popularity for her role as Anita in the hit sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, where she became widely known as “Gori Mem”. In 2018, she also hosted the second season of Entertainment Ki Raat.
