Sydney Sweeney Managing Fame 'incredibly Well', Says Christy Co-Star Ben Foster

Los Angeles: Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney, who portrays real-life boxing icon Christy Martin in the upcoming sports drama Christy, is navigating her rising fame with remarkable grace, according to co-star Ben Foster. Foster plays James V. Martin, Christy’s coach and later husband, in the film.

Speaking to The Independent, Foster praised Sweeney’s work ethic and professionalism:
“Sydney is her own force. She came in extremely prepared, knew the crew’s names, was always ready to work. I’d be knackered at the end of the day, and she’d go train for another three hours to fight the next morning.”

He added that despite being at the center of global attention, Sweeney is managing it “incredibly well”, calling her a “powerhouse”.

Foster also expressed admiration for how she uses social media strategically — an area he stays away from entirely. “I’m not on any social media at all, and have never been. But she plays in that field. It’s so important to this generation, to the future. I find her incredibly impressive,” he said, as quoted by femalefirst.co.uk.

Recently, Sweeney shared that she sometimes finds it difficult to ask for help because she fears being perceived as “weak”. She said her own experiences allowed her to connect deeply with her character in Christy.

Talking to Sky News, she explained:
“I have a really hard time with asking for help… there’s nothing wrong with it, but I have a really hard time with it.”

She added that societal expectations placed on women often intensify this struggle:
“As a woman, there are so many expectations to have it all together. If we ask for help, it’s seen as a sign of weakness… whereas if a man asks, no one thinks he’s weak. But if a woman director asks for help, people say she’s not prepared.”
