Mumbai — Actor Kriti Sanon has finally shared why she spent years trying to collaborate with filmmaker Anand L. Rai, expressing deep admiration for his storytelling and her long-standing desire to be part of one of his love stories.
Speaking at the trailer launch of Tere Ishq Mein, Kriti said the dream began many years ago.
“I have met Anand sir so many times, and I was after him for years,” she said. “I kept telling him, ‘Sir, I want to do a love story directed by you.’ It has always been on my wish list. I love love stories — I don’t know why — but there is less love in the world, and love stories have also become fewer.”
She added that Rai’s films resonate with her because of their emotional depth.
“His love stories aren’t simple — they’re layered and complicated, just like real life. There is love, pain, and fire. Many things all at once. And one fine day, the opportunity finally came. That’s how I got Mukti.”
Kriti also spoke about how working with Rai changed her usual approach to acting. Known for being “the frontbencher who does all her homework,” she admitted this was the first time she chose not to prepare in advance.
“The way Mukti was in his mind made me think — it’s Anand sir, let it go this time. Instead of preparing, I decided to surrender and discover the character with him on set. It was a completely different experience for me,” she said.
She described the process as “going in raw, like a blank sheet of paper,” and discovering every shade of the character during filming.
“Mukti begins somewhere and ends somewhere else — they’re almost two different characters. Those layers and the depth are a dream for any actor. I hope you all love her and love the film.”
Directed by Anand L. Rai, Tere Ishq Mein also stars Dhanush in the lead role and is slated for release on November 28, 2025.
