Mumbai: Actress Chitrangada Singh, who was recently seen in Housefull 5, revealed that she had to give 28 retakes for a single shot in the upcoming film Raat Akeli Hai 2, calling director Honey Trehan a very “demanding” filmmaker.
In a conversation with IANS, the actress opened up about the experience, calling it a learning moment that helped her grow as a performer.
She said, “Usually, my second or third take is fine and usable. Sometimes we do a few more, but generally, the second or third take works. But for Raat Akeli Hai 2 with Honey Trehan, I’ve never done so many takes before. It was an incredibly challenging role, and Honey is a very demanding director.”
She added, “I think I gave almost 28 takes for one shot—for the first time in my career. But honestly, I’m glad, because I believe it pushed me to improve and refine my performance.”
Chitrangada also shared that real-life stories inspire her deeply as an artist. She emphasized the importance of telling such stories, as they offer new perspectives to audiences.
“I’m truly inspired by true stories and real-life incidents. They motivate me a lot. As filmmakers and storytellers, I think it’s important to tell these stories—whether it’s for entertainment, inspiration, or awareness. That’s why I’m always excited about biopics,” she said.
On the recent controversy regarding actress Deepika Padukone allegedly exiting a film by Sandeep Reddy Vanga over an 8-hour shooting schedule, Chitrangada responded diplomatically.
She said, “It all depends on your personal rapport and understanding with the director and producer. If things can be managed, they will manage. But sometimes there are constraints—time, money, scheduling.”
“I think we should respect those practical aspects too. Because in our industry, time is literally money. Everyone’s putting in resources. I don’t want to comment on anyone’s decision, but Deepika is a huge star, and it’s her right and privilege to make the choices she feels are best for her,” she concluded.
