Mumbai — Popular television actress Asha Negi has candidly spoken about her decision to step away from several projects where she felt intimate or bold scenes were included without any real narrative purpose.
In an honest conversation, Asha stressed the importance of comfort and consent when it comes to performing such scenes, and highlighted the creative dilemmas actors often face in the industry. When asked if she had ever turned down projects because of misalignment with her values or discomfort with the script, she confirmed that she had made such choices on multiple occasions.
“Yes, I’ve walked away from many projects,” the Pavitra Rishta actress told IANS. “Sometimes, when I feel the story lacks depth or bold scenes are added just for the sake of it, I don’t enjoy being a part of it. In those cases, I prefer to let the opportunity go.”
When questioned about the perception that actors take on bold scenes for fame or content value, Asha responded firmly, “I don’t think actors do bold scenes just to become popular. And honestly, does bold content really bring fame? I’m not sure. From what I’ve seen, recognition comes from meaningful stories, strong characters, and compelling performances. Fame was something I thought about when I was new to the industry, but now, my focus is entirely on my craft.”
Reflecting on her career, the Baarish actress shared that she never felt typecast during her time on television. Following her success in well-known shows, she took a step back from daily soaps, participating only in a few reality and fictional programs that didn’t gain much traction.
She later transitioned into the OTT space, where she has been actively exploring a wide range of characters. Asha emphasized that she makes deliberate choices to avoid being stereotyped, allowing her to evolve and grow as an actor.
Most recently, Asha appeared in the gripping legal drama Criminal Justice 4, in which Pankaj Tripathi reprised his acclaimed role as the sharp-witted lawyer Madhav Mishra.
Directed by Rohan Sippy, the latest season premiered on JioHotstar on May 22.
