Elated with audience response to 'Gold': Mouni Roy

Actress Mouni Roy is thrilled with the response to her Bollywood debut “Gold”, saying the appreciation from audiences has made her feel excited and grateful.

Mouni, who plays the wife of Akshay Kumar’s character in the hockey-based sports drama, was speaking to the media during a photo shoot in Mumbai on Friday.

Released on Independence Day, “Gold” opened strongly at the box office and earned Rs 33.25 crore during its first two days. The film, directed by Reema Kagti, is inspired by India’s historic hockey triumph at the 1948 Olympics and follows the journey of a determined sports manager who dreams of seeing an independent India win an Olympic gold medal.

“I feel elated, excited and very happy with the audience response to the film. Our film has released only two days ago, so we will get a clear picture of its box-office performance at the end of this week,” Mouni said.

The actress, however, remained cautious about celebrating the film’s commercial performance too early. She said she would prefer to wait for the complete first-week figures before drawing any conclusions.

Mouni has already built a strong fan base through her long television career, with popular shows such as “Kasturi”, “Naagin” and “Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi” helping her become a familiar face among Indian television audiences.

Reflecting on her journey from television to films, Mouni credited her fans for standing by her throughout her career.

“I am really thankful to my audience because I have had a most loyal set of fans from the time I started acting on television. They were always by my side and have supported me in my journey,” she said.

She added that her fans continued to encourage her even during moments when she felt she could have performed better.

Mouni said she regularly reads comments from fans on social media and considers their affection a major source of motivation. She also stressed that she wants to continue giving her best so that she does not disappoint the people who have supported her career.

Following her debut in “Gold”, Mouni is set to take on a very different role in Ayan Mukerji’s ambitious fantasy drama “Brahmastra”, where she will reportedly portray a negative character. The film features Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan in key roles.

She also has two more films in the pipeline — Robbie Grewal’s espionage thriller “Romeo Akbar Walter (RAW)” and Mikhil Musale’s comedy-drama “Made in China”.

With a successful television career behind her and several major film projects lined up, Mouni’s transition to the big screen marks an important new phase in her acting journey.
