Apache Indian announces 'Punjabi Girl' feat Raftaar

Birmingham-born musician Steven Kapur, better known by his stage name Apache Indian, is set to release a new track, “Punjabi Girl”, featuring Indian rapper Raftaar.

The 50-year-old singer, who became widely known for songs such as “Boom Shack-A-Lak”, “Movie Over India” and “Chok There”, is returning with a track that blends Punjabi lyrics, dancehall rhythms and contemporary Indian rap.

“Punjabi Girl” has been composed and produced by Charlie Hype, with Apache Indian delivering Punjabi vocals over an upbeat dancehall arrangement. Raftaar contributes rap verses, adding a modern Hindi and Bollywood-inspired flavour to the song.

Apache Indian praised Raftaar's contribution, saying his lyrics and vocal style add a distinctive touch to the track. The two artists are also working on another song in which Apache will feature.

The track is scheduled to release on September 28 along with Apache Indian's album “On The Weekend”.

Apache Indian rose to international prominence by combining elements of bhangra, Jamaican reggae and dancehall with English-language music. His crossover sound helped introduce South Asian musical influences to a wider international dance music audience and influenced the evolution of the genre.

His collaboration with Raftaar brings together two different generations of artists, connecting Apache Indian's pioneering fusion sound with the contemporary Indian hip-hop scene.
