
New Delhi: Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) on Tuesday announced the start of production of the updated Volkswagen Taigun at its Chakan Plant, reinforcing its ‘Make in India, for India and the world’ strategy.
The refreshed Taigun comes with updated styling and enhanced premium features, while being specifically tuned for Indian road conditions. The company said the SUV continues to deliver European driving dynamics along with a strong focus on comfort and safety.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of the company, said the launch reflects the growing strength and maturity of India’s manufacturing ecosystem. He added that the company’s facilities are capable of producing globally competitive vehicles with high levels of localisation, catering efficiently to both domestic and export markets.
Nitin Kohli, Brand Director at Volkswagen India, highlighted that the Taigun has been a key pillar of the brand’s SUV strategy since its debut and continues to play a crucial role in expanding its portfolio. He noted that production at the Pune facility underscores the company’s long-term commitment to Indian customers.
Since its launch in 2021, the Taigun has built a strong presence in the SUV segment, known for its performance, comfort, and safety. The company revealed that over 1.43 lakh units have been produced in India so far, with nearly 30 per cent exported to international markets.
Headquartered in Pune, SAVWIPL manages the Indian operations of several premium brands under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, including Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bentley.
With over 25 years of presence in India, the company operates two manufacturing facilities in Chakan and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with a combined annual production capacity of around 3.15 lakh units. It currently has a network of nearly 700 customer touchpoints and employs about 5,000 people across the country.
