Kathmandu — India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday for a two-day official visit aimed at further deepening ties between India and Nepal. He is visiting at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart, Amrit Bahadur Rai.
Announcing his arrival, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu posted on X: “Foreign Secretary of India Vikram Misri arrives in Kathmandu for an official visit, which reflects the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Nepal, and reaffirms the commitment to the Neighbourhood First policy.”
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) underscored the importance of the visit, noting that India and Nepal share “strong and friendly ties” that have made “concrete progress in diverse areas of cooperation” in recent years. The MEA said the visit is an opportunity to advance bilateral relations under India’s Neighbourhood First policy.
According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Misri and Rai will hold talks covering various aspects of the partnership, with a focus on connectivity, development cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest. Misri is also scheduled to meet other senior dignitaries in Kathmandu.
The visit comes against the backdrop of a series of recent high-level exchanges. Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met a group of young political leaders from Nepal in New Delhi, where discussions centered on close cooperation and strong people-to-people ties.
On July 30, Misri also held talks with a multiparty delegation of Nepali parliamentarians in New Delhi, exploring ways to expand the multifaceted partnership between the two neighbors. Days earlier, on July 27, the Embassy of Nepal in India hosted the same delegation, emphasizing that regular exchanges between political leaders from both sides would help strengthen bilateral ties.
