In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Dhurwa police have seized a large consignment of brown sugar in the Smart City area of Ranchi. Four people have been arrested, while an accused identified as Sonu Tiwari allegedly escaped from the spot. According to police, a total of 4,000 packets of brown sugar weighing 338.96 grams were recovered.

The operation followed a tip-off that Sonu Tiwari and Sandeep alias Mama, along with others, were expected to arrive near the CNG petrol pump in the Smart City area under Dhurwa police station limits to conduct a suspected drug deal.

After verifying the information, police deployed a team of four to five personnel in plain clothes to monitor the location.

According to police, five young men arrived from different directions a short while later. As the exchange of goods began, the police team moved in and detained four suspects. Sonu Tiwari allegedly managed to flee.

Cash, Mobile Phones and Vehicles Seized

During the search, police recovered 4,000 packets of brown sugar weighing 338.96 grams. Four mobile phones, Rs 9,100 in cash, two motorcycles and a scooter were also seized.

Police have identified Ankit Tiwari and Hrithik Raj among the arrested accused as alleged key suppliers. Preliminary investigations suggest that the two had brought pre-packed consignments from another state and were planning to distribute them in different parts of Ranchi.

Investigators suspect that the location near Smart City was being used as a delivery point for the alleged drug supply operation. Police are now examining the source of the consignment and attempting to establish the links between those arrested and other individuals who may be involved.

Police Investigating Wider Drug Supply Network

According to police, Ankit Tiwari has three to four previous cases registered against him, and he has reportedly been convicted in one of them.

The arrested suspects are being questioned as investigators work to identify other members of the alleged network. Police are also searching for Sonu Tiwari, who reportedly escaped during the raid.

The seizure marks a significant police operation against suspected drug distribution in the state capital. Further investigation is expected to shed light on the supply chain, the intended destinations of the consignment and the possible involvement of additional suspects.

The allegations against the arrested individuals remain subject to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
