Asian Games: India Win Silver in Men’s 50m Rifle 3P; Aishwary, Niraj Enter Individual Final

India secured a silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event at the Asian Games on Friday, with Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Niraj Kumar and Rudrankksh Patil combining for a strong performance at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Gallery.

The Indian trio finished with a combined score of 1762-94x to take second place. China won the gold medal with 1766-95x, while South Korea claimed bronze with 1751-87x.

India’s medal tally in shooting received another boost on a day when the country also celebrated a gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. The results came after the Indian shooting contingent had endured a difficult start, including medal-less performances in the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol events.

In the rifle 3P team final, the Indian shooters accumulated 587 points across the two kneeling series before producing an even stronger showing in the prone position, scoring 593 to take their combined tally to 1180 after two stages.

They added 582 points in the standing series to finish on 1762 points, with 94 inner tens.

The team performance was complemented by strong individual displays from Aishwary and Niraj, who both advanced to the individual final later on Friday.

Aishwary finished third in the individual qualification with 589-34x, while Niraj secured fourth place with 588-34x. Rudrankksh narrowly missed the individual final, finishing ninth with 585-26x.

Earlier in the day, Suruchi Phogat and Kamaljeet combined to win gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. The Indian pair produced a score of 484.6 in the final, setting a new Asian record.

Suruchi and Kamaljeet maintained their composure throughout the high-pressure final and stayed at the top of the standings to secure the gold medal ahead of the Republic of Korea.

With the rifle 3P silver and mixed team pistol gold, Indian shooters added two more medals to the country’s Asian Games campaign on a productive day at the shooting range.
