IIIT Ranchi Conducts Internal Round of Smart India Hackathon 2026 with Participation of 43 Teams

The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Ranchi conducted the Internal Round of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2026, with 43 student teams participating and presenting innovative solutions to real-world problem statements.

The initiative was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, Director, IIIT Ranchi, and under the leadership of Dr. Dhiran Kumar Mahto, Institute Coordinator/SPOC, with support from the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) and House of Geeks, the technical community of IIIT Ranchi.

The internal round followed a series of awareness and orientation sessions organised across the institute to encourage students from different semesters to participate in SIH 2026. The participating teams worked on problem statements covering diverse areas including agriculture, healthcare, smart cities and education.

During the internal round, students presented their proposed solutions, applying technical knowledge, creativity, design thinking and problem-solving approaches to address the identified challenges.

The projects were evaluated by the jury on parameters including understanding of the problem statement, innovation, feasibility, social impact, presentation skills and teamwork. The jury members interacted with the participating teams, reviewed their proposed solutions and provided feedback. A final comparative evaluation was subsequently conducted to identify the teams demonstrating strong potential.

Among the projects presented, Tensor Titans showcased an AI/ML-based Intelligent Dead Reckoning System, while Sudo Secure presented a 2.5D LiDAR-based Dynamic Environment Perception System. Qubits Crew proposed an AI-powered Smart Farming Assistant aimed at addressing challenges in the agriculture sector.

The shortlisted teams will further develop and refine their solutions with the objective of representing IIIT Ranchi at the national level of Smart India Hackathon 2026.

The Internal Round provided students with an opportunity to work collaboratively on real-world challenges, receive expert feedback and strengthen their technical, presentation and problem-solving skills. It also provided a platform for students to explore innovative ideas and develop technology-based solutions with practical and social relevance.

Speaking on the initiative, Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, Director, IIIT Ranchi, appreciated the efforts of the students, faculty members, coordinators and student teams involved in the Internal Round. He emphasised the importance of providing students with platforms that encourage innovation, technical learning and the development of solutions to real-world challenges.

The initiative reflects IIIT Ranchi's continued efforts to encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, technical excellence and socially relevant problem-solving among its students.
