The Jharkhand Police Headquarters will now keep a closer watch on the implementation of the new criminal laws in the state. The Home, Prison and Disaster Management Department has ordered regular reviews of the action being taken under the new laws, including investigations, case handling and other related procedures.
Under the new system, review meetings will be held twice every month, on the first and 15th day. If either date falls on a government holiday, the meeting will be held on the next working day.
The first review meeting under the new arrangement will be held on August 21 at 11:30 a.m. It will be chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home, Prison and Disaster Management Department. Apart from the implementation of the new criminal laws, the meeting will also take up other important matters concerning the state.
Campaign IG Narendra Kumar Singh has been appointed as the nodal officer for the review process. He will be responsible for coordinating with the concerned departments and officers, collecting the required information and ensuring that preparations for the meetings are completed.
Senior police officials have also been informed about the meeting. The Director General of Police, Additional Directors General of Police and Inspectors General will participate, along with officials from the Directorate of Prosecution, Forensic Science Laboratory, NIC-CJS and other relevant agencies.
The move comes against the backdrop of significant changes introduced in police investigation and criminal justice procedures following the implementation of the new criminal laws. Regular reviews are expected to help authorities identify practical difficulties faced by investigators and other agencies and address them without unnecessary delays.
The twice-monthly meetings will also provide an opportunity to assess the progress of investigations and the overall implementation of the new legal provisions across the state. Any gaps or operational challenges can be flagged at an early stage and appropriate action can be taken.
With the first meeting scheduled for August 21, Jharkhand is set to begin a more structured and continuous monitoring mechanism for the implementation of the new criminal laws.
