SIR Deadline Extended: Final Voter List to Be Published on October 19

The deadline for filing claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Jharkhand has been extended to September 15, 2026. According to the revised schedule issued by the Election Commission of India, the final electoral roll will now be published on October 19.

Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar said the process of issuing notices and disposing of claims and objections will continue until October 14. The final publication of the electoral roll will follow five days later on October 19.

The draft electoral roll under the SIR exercise was published in Jharkhand on August 5. Under the earlier schedule, September 4 was the last date for filing claims and objections, while the disposal process was to be completed by October 3 and the final electoral roll was scheduled for publication on October 7.

More time sought to help voters

The extension was requested by the state election authorities after district election officials highlighted the difficulties faced by voters in completing the revision process within the original timeline.

The Election Commission was informed about several factors affecting public participation, including the monsoon season, the large number of people engaged in agricultural activities and the Shravani Mela in Deoghar and Dumka. Taking these circumstances into account, the Commission agreed to extend the schedule.

311 additional officers appointed

To speed up the disposal of claims, objections and other voter-related applications, Jharkhand has appointed 311 additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers.

The additional manpower is expected to help election officials deal with applications and notices more efficiently and provide better assistance to voters during the extended revision period.

Voters urged to check their names

K. Ravi Kumar has appealed to all eligible Indian citizens whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll to use the extended deadline and submit their applications in the prescribed format.

Young and newly eligible voters have been particularly encouraged to use ECINET to submit Form 6 for registration. They have also been urged to encourage eligible family members, friends and people in their neighbourhood to get themselves enrolled.

Those whose names are already on the electoral roll but whose details such as name, address or age contain errors can apply for corrections through Form 8.

Officials directed to assist voters

The Chief Electoral Officer has directed District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Booth Level Officers to widely publicise the revised schedule and provide all possible assistance to voters.

The objective of the SIR exercise is to make the electoral roll more accurate and reliable by ensuring that no eligible Indian citizen is left out while preventing the inclusion of ineligible or foreign nationals.

With the deadline now extended, September 15 is the key date for voters who need to register their names, file claims or raise objections regarding the electoral roll.
