Dhanbad Post Office, Passport Seva Kendra Evacuated After Fresh Bomb Threat

Dhanbad: Security agencies launched a major search operation in Jharkhand's Dhanbad on Wednesday after the Main Post Office and the Regional Passport Seva Kendra functioning from the same premises received a fresh bomb threat via an anonymous email.

The threat prompted police to evacuate the entire building immediately, while bomb disposal and dog squads were pressed into service to thoroughly inspect the premises.

According to officials, the email warned that explosions would occur at the Main Post Office and the Passport Seva Kendra at 1:15 p.m. It also contained objectionable religious remarks and called for the removal of members of a particular community.

Investigators are examining the language, source and authenticity of the email to determine the credibility of the threat.

Police teams, along with other security agencies, rushed to the spot soon after the alert was received. As a precautionary measure, all employees and visitors inside the Post Office and Passport Seva Kendra were evacuated safely.

The nearby BSNL office and the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) office were also cleared to eliminate any potential risk in the event of an explosion.

Senior police officials supervised the operation as bomb disposal experts and sniffer dogs carried out an intensive search of the entire complex. The surrounding area was also searched, and all suspicious objects were examined.

No explosives had been recovered from the premises till the time of filing this report.

Security has been strengthened across the area, with police setting up a security cordon and restricting public movement around the complex.

The cyber cell has been tasked with tracing the origin of the threatening email, including identifying the IP address or server used to send it, and determining whether any individual, group or organisation was behind it.

Police said the threat is being investigated with the highest priority and urged the public not to believe or spread rumours. They also appealed to people to report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately, while security agencies continue to keep a close watch on the situation.
