Quad Meet Yields Key Gains on Maritime Security, Energy and Critical Minerals: US Envoy Sergio Gor

New Delhi- US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Tuesday said the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi produced “strong and concrete outcomes,” with member nations announcing several new initiatives focused on maritime security, energy resilience, critical minerals, and regional infrastructure.

Sharing the major outcomes of the meeting on X, Gor highlighted enhanced cooperation among the Quad countries in areas such as maritime surveillance, domain awareness, coast guard coordination, and strategic infrastructure development.

According to the US envoy, the Quad nations will work alongside Fiji to strengthen critical port infrastructure, aimed at improving connectivity and regional resilience in the Indo-Pacific.

He also underscored the importance of the newly announced Critical Minerals Framework, saying it would help secure supply chains related to mining, processing, and recycling of essential minerals. Gor noted that closer coordination among Quad partners would reduce economic vulnerabilities and bolster long-term security.

Emphasising the strategic importance of energy cooperation, Gor stated that the Quad’s new Indo-Pacific Energy Security Initiative would deepen collaboration on technology, energy resilience, and emergency preparedness to support a stable and secure region.

He further revealed that the US Department of Energy will host a dedicated Quad Fuel Security Forum later this year.

The meeting in New Delhi was attended by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

The Quad — comprising India, Australia, Japan, and the United States — aims to promote a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. The grouping first came together during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami to coordinate humanitarian assistance, while the inaugural Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held in 2019.
