Amritsar: Security agencies are on high alert after two separate explosion incidents were reported in Punjab on Tuesday evening—one near the cantonment area in Khasa, Amritsar, and another close to the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar.
The first incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. near the Khasa cantonment zone. Police, along with Army personnel, rushed to the spot after reports of a loud explosion-like sound. According to officials, no casualties have been reported.
Superintendent of Police Aditya Warrier confirmed that the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and forensic teams were immediately deployed. The Forensic Science Laboratory has collected samples from the site, which are now being analysed to determine the exact cause and nature of the blast.
Authorities have since cordoned off the area, with surveillance intensified due to its proximity to a sensitive military installation.
Earlier in the evening, at around 8 p.m., another explosion was reported near the Border Security Force Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar. Preliminary findings suggest that the blast may have been caused by a scooter catching fire.
The scooter reportedly belongs to Gurpreet Singh, an employee of a courier company, who is currently being questioned by the police as part of the investigation. No injuries were reported in this incident either.
The back-to-back developments have triggered sharp political reactions. Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party have criticised the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, alleging a decline in law and order.
BJP Punjab General Secretary Parminder Singh Brar described the situation as alarming, stating that such incidents highlight growing safety concerns in public spaces and called for accountability from the state government.
Meanwhile, investigations into both incidents are ongoing, and officials say more details will emerge after forensic analysis is completed.
