Over 100 detained in Ranchi amid suspected constable exam paper leak

Ranchi — Police in Ranchi detained more than 100 individuals following a late-night raid linked to a suspected paper leak ahead of the Excise constable recruitment examination, officials said on Sunday.

The operation was carried out in the Rangamati area under the Tamar police station limits after inputs about suspicious activity. Authorities raided a building where candidates were allegedly found preparing with what is believed to be a leaked question paper.

During the raid, police seized mobile phones, documents and other materials, which are currently being examined. All those detained have been taken to Tamar police station for questioning.

Officials said the investigation is underway and have not ruled out the involvement of an organised racket or a larger conspiracy. However, they clarified that there is no official confirmation yet regarding an actual paper leak.

The recruitment examination is being conducted across Jharkhand on April 12 at around 370 centres spread over eight districts. Nearly 1.48 lakh candidates, who had earlier cleared the physical efficiency test, are appearing for the exam to fill 583 posts.

Authorities have heightened vigilance across key districts, including Dhanbad, to ensure a fair and transparent process. Acting on instructions from SSP Prabhat Kumar, police teams conducted late-night checks at hotels, lodges and dharamshalas, verifying guests and warning operators against accommodating individuals without valid identification.

The administration has reiterated strict guidelines prohibiting mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices and other electronic gadgets inside examination centres, warning of strict action against any malpractice.
