Ranchi: In a major relief, IAS officer Vinay Chaubey, arrested in the ?1,000 crore liquor scam, has been granted bail by the ACB court. The court today granted bail under Section 187(2) of the BNS. However, Chaubey must inform the court before leaving the state and is not allowed to change his mobile contact number during the judicial process. The court has also directed him to furnish a personal bond of ?25,000.
Although Chaubey had to remain in jail for 92 days in connection with the liquor scam case, the ACB did not file a chargesheet against him during this entire period, which eventually paved the way for his bail.
It is noteworthy that on May 20 this year, the ACB had summoned Vinay Chaubey for questioning in the liquor scam case, but immediately after the interrogation, he was arrested. Following the serious allegations, the state government suspended him from service.
Meanwhile, soon after the bail order, Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi reacted strongly on social media platform X, accusing the ACB of deliberately not filing the chargesheet within 90 days, thereby making Chaubey’s bail easier. He further alleged that Chief Minister Hemant Soren conspired to get his former secretary arrested to derail the ED’s investigation and destroy crucial evidence.
