Indian firms lead IT transformation in Asia: Dell EMC

About 17 per cent of organisations in India have achieved a fully transformed status in IT, significantly higher than the 4 per cent recorded across other Asian countries covered by a Dell EMC study released on Tuesday.

The study found that employees at transformed Indian companies were 8.5 times more likely than those at legacy or emerging firms to say their organisations almost always make better and faster data-driven decisions.

Around 90 per cent of Indian respondents agreed that failing to embrace IT transformation would hurt their company's competitiveness.

"Today, Indian organizations not only realize the importance of transforming their IT infrastructure to ensure they have a competitive edge to reduce costs, but they also now know that it is crucial to turn data into business intelligence," said Rajesh Janey, Managing Director and President, Enterprise India, Dell EMC.

According to the study, transformed organisations in India were also more likely to complete most application roll-outs ahead of schedule than companies with lower IT maturity scores.

More than 70 per cent of Indian respondents from organisations classified as transformed said they had mature digital transformation projects underway. This compared with just 3 per cent among the legacy and emerging companies surveyed.

The study also highlighted India's relatively high adoption of virtualisation. Around 49 per cent of production servers in Indian organisations were virtual machines, compared with 45 per cent across the rest of Asia.

Indian organisations were also found to be ahead of the rest of Asia in areas such as automation and process evolution, alongside the adoption of modern data centre technologies.

The "IT Transformation" maturity study surveyed 4,000 IT decision-makers worldwide, including 400 respondents from India.
