Children in Jharkhand to resume learning via DD during lockdown

Ranchi: Starting from Monday children across Jharkhand will resume their learning through daily educational broadcasts on Doordarshan. 

The Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) and Doordarshan agreed upon three hours of daily broadcasts on weekdays from 10am-12pm and 1pm-2pm. The broadcasts will include one hour of programming for grades X-XII, one and a half hour of programming for grades I-IX, and half an hour of programming aimed at adolescent children across the state. 

Uma Shankar Singh, State Project Director, JEPC, said that these broadcasts would help children with limited access to digital resources. Most of the 47 lakh government school students across Jharkhand face problems in accessing online learning material, he said adding that this partnership with Doordarshan will help to ensure that a routine is set for children of all ages to tune in and resume their studies.

The daily broadcasts will also feature popular children’s program’s such as Galli Galli Sim Sim to ensure language development and life skills education, especially for early grade children. JEPC will also focus on specific academic requirements of students who will appear for their board exams.

Prasanta Dash, Chief, UNICEF Jharkhand Field Office, said that the educational programmes would help children and their families get through the period of school closures together. He said that these daily programmes on Doordarshan will help children connect with their lessons in an engaging and entertaining matter, moreover, parents will also get an opportunity to be more involved in the learning process.
