T20 World Cup: ICC Urges Bangladesh to Reconsider India Travel, BCB Maintains Firm Stand

Dhaka - The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reiterated its decision not to travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, citing security concerns, following a video conference with the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday.

The meeting centred on Bangladesh’s participation in the global tournament, with the BCB once again requesting that its matches be shifted outside India. While the ICC stressed that the tournament schedule has already been finalised and urged Bangladesh to reconsider its stance, the BCB remained unmoved. Both parties agreed to continue discussions in an effort to find a possible resolution.

“A video conference between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) was held this afternoon to discuss the participation of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026,” the BCB said in an official statement.

The BCB delegation included President Md Aminul Islam, Vice Presidents Md Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, Director and Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee Nazmul Abedeen, and Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.

“During the discussions, the BCB reaffirmed its position regarding the decision not to travel to India due to security concerns. The Board also reiterated its request for the ICC to consider relocating Bangladesh’s matches outside India,” the statement said.

The ICC, however, highlighted the logistical complexities involved. It pointed out that the tournament itinerary has already been announced and asked the BCB to reconsider its position. Despite this, the Bangladesh board maintained its stance. Both sides agreed to continue dialogue to explore possible alternatives.

Reiterating its priorities, the BCB emphasised that the safety of players, officials and support staff remains its foremost concern. “The BCB remains committed to ensuring the well-being of its players and personnel, while continuing constructive engagement with the ICC on this matter,” it said.

Further discussions between the ICC and the BCB are expected as the governing body seeks to resolve the issue ahead of the 2026 showpiece event. With the World Cup only weeks away, any changes to the schedule appear unlikely, though the ICC is expected to take a final decision soon.
