‘Naa lega koi panga... rahega sabse upar tiranga’: Women in Blue unveil victory song after historic World Cup triumph

New Delhi — The Indian women’s cricket team unveiled their long-awaited victory song on Sunday night after clinching their maiden ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title with a commanding 52-run win over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

India scripted history by defeating South Africa to lift their first-ever World Cup trophy, sending the home crowd into raptures.

“We decided four years ago that we would only reveal our team song once we won the World Cup — and tonight is that moment,” said Jemimah Rodrigues in a video shared by the BCCI, as her teammates joined her in belting out the celebratory anthem.

The team sang in unison:

“Team India, Team India, karde sabki hawa tight,
Team India is here to fight, koi na lega humko light,
Oooooooo, our future is bright…
Saath mein challenge, saath mein uthenge,
Hum hain Team India, hum saath mein jeetenge.

Naa lega koi panga, kar denge hum danga,
Rahega sabse upar humara tiranga.
Hum hain Team India, clap clap clap,
Hum hain Team India, clap clap clap,
Hum hain Team Indiaaaaaaa!”

Chasing 299, South Africa looked in control at one stage, but Deepti Sharma’s brilliant spell turned the match on its head. Her dismissal of Annerie Dercksen triggered a collapse, as the Proteas fell from 209/5 to 246 all out, handing India a historic win.

Captain Laura Wolvaardt’s valiant century (101) wasn’t enough as wickets kept tumbling around her. Deepti starred with the ball, claiming a sensational 5 for 39, while Shafali Verma and Sree Charani provided crucial breakthroughs to seal the triumph.

The victory was especially emotional for captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who was playing in her fifth World Cup. Cricket legends Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami — who had dedicated their careers to building women’s cricket in India — joined the team on the field for the celebrations before nearly 40,000 ecstatic fans.

In a touching gesture, Harmanpreet and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana handed over the trophy to Mithali and Jhulan, honoring the pioneers who paved the way for this golden moment. Tears of joy flowed freely as the Women in Blue celebrated a night that will forever be etched in Indian sporting history.
