Bengaluru: Karnataka’s 13-year-old tennis sensation Srishti Kiran captured her maiden international junior title after a stellar performance at the ITF J30 tournament in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.
Srishti dominated the final, defeating top seed Stephanie Pumar of Venezuela 6-2, 6-2, to claim the championship in straight sets. The victory completed a flawless week in which she did not drop a single set.
Earlier in the tournament, Srishti stunned second seed Arina Vansovich of Russia 6-2, 6-3 in the pre-quarterfinals before continuing her winning run with confident performances through the next rounds.
“Winning my first international title in Cabarete feels truly special,” said Srishti after her triumph. “The decision to play here was made by my academy, RPS Academy in Florida. The competition was strong, with several high-ranked players who had competed in major junior events. Every match was a challenge.”
She added, “I’m proud that I stayed composed and enjoyed my tennis, especially during the upset against the second seed and in the final. Adapting to clay wasn’t easy, but I adjusted quickly and gained confidence as the tournament progressed. I’m grateful to RPS Academy, Florida, and KSLTA for their continuous support. This win is a big step forward, and I’m motivated to keep improving, climbing the rankings, and working towards my dream of competing in junior Grand Slams.”
Srishti, who trained at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA), has emerged as one of India’s most promising young players. She first gained national attention when she remained unbeaten while representing India at the ATF U-12 Girls’ Team Championship Finals in August 2023.
Currently ranked No. 21 in India’s U-14 girls’ category, Srishti continues to impress with her consistent performances. She will stay in the Dominican Republic to compete in another ITF J30 event next week, aiming to build on her breakthrough success.
