Rashmika’s gold, Manu’s bronze light up India’s day at Asian Shooting Championship

Shymkent (Kazakhstan): India enjoyed a successful second day at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, as Rashmika Sahgal clinched gold in junior women’s 10m air pistol, while Olympic double bronze medallist Manu Bhaker secured bronze in the senior women’s event.

Manu shot 219.7 in the women’s 10m air pistol final, finishing third behind China’s Ma Qianke, the eventual champion. It was another display of consistency from the seasoned shooter, who also teamed up with Palak (573) and Suruchi Phogat (574) to bag a team bronze in the event.

Rashmika, meanwhile, produced a brilliant performance in the junior women’s final, scoring 241.9, a commanding 4.3 points ahead of silver medallist Han Seunghyun of Korea. With a qualification score of 582, Rashmika also partnered with Vanshika Chaudhary (573) and Mohini Singh (565) to secure the team gold, completing a golden double.

In her final, Rashmika overtook Han after the 13th shot and never looked back, sealing her win with a stunning 10.9 on the 15th shot.

India’s strong showing continued across categories:

  • Kapil Bainsla opened India’s gold tally on Monday with victory in the junior men’s 10m air pistol and also won a team silver.

  • Jonathan Gavin Antony added a junior men’s bronze.

  • In the youth men’s air pistol, Girish Gupta won gold, Dev Pratap took bronze, and the youth team struck gold as well.

So far, India’s shooters have amassed five gold, two silver, and four bronze medals across events.
