
Rohtak: The National Boxing Academy in Rohtak is buzzing with excitement as 640 young boxers (350 boys and 290 girls) gear up for the 6th Junior (U-17) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships from June 19 to 26.
Championship Highlights
Weight Categories: 13 each for boys and girls, ranging from 44-46 kg to 80+ kg.

A Launchpad for Future Champions
Ajay Singh, President-Chairperson of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) Interim Committee, emphasized the event’s significance:
"This championship is a vital platform for young talent to impress national selectors. Many participants will represent India at the 2032 and 2036 Olympics, making this a crucial stepping stone."
He added that the tournament also serves as a qualifier for the Asian Youth Games (October 2025), where boxing debuts with 14 medals at stake.
Eligibility & Competition Rules
REC Combined Talent Hunt (2024) medalists (gold & silver) can compete under the REC banner, provided they meet the age criteria (born between Jan 1, 2009, and Dec 31, 2010).
Bout Format:
3 rounds of 2 minutes each, with 1-minute breaks.
10-point must scoring system (as per World Boxing rules).
India’s Rising Boxing Dominance
Indian boxing continues its upward trajectory:
Seniors: Won 8 medals (2 gold) at the Thailand International.
Juniors (U-15 & U-17): Secured 43 medals (15 gold, 6 silver, 22 bronze) at the Asian U-15 & U-17 Championships, finishing 2nd overall.
With a strong youth pipeline, India is steadily emerging as a global boxing powerhouse.
