Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team Defeats Uruguay in Shootout at Four Nations Tournament

Rosario (Argentina) – The Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team clinched a 3-1 shootout victory over Uruguay after a 2-2 draw in regular time during their fifth match of the Four Nations Tournament.

India started strong with goals from vice-captain Hina in the 10th minute and Lalrinpuii in the 24th, giving them a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Uruguay staged a late comeback in the final quarter, with Ines de Posadas scoring in the 54th minute, followed by an equalizer from Milagros Seigal in the 57th minute.

In the shootout, India kept their nerves as Geeta, Kanika, and Lalthantluagi successfully converted their attempts, while Uruguay managed to score just once.

Earlier in the tournament, India faced a 1-3 loss to Chile in a shootout following a 2-2 draw in their fourth game. Sukhveer Kaur (35') and Kanika Siwach (47') scored for India, while Chile’s Jacinta Solari (27') and captain Laura Muller (42') netted for their side.

India began their campaign on a winning note, defeating Chile 2-1 on May 25, with goals from Sukhveer Kaur (39') and Kanika Siwach (58'). Javeria Saenz (20') scored for Chile.

They followed it up with a 3-2 win over Uruguay on May 26, with Kanika Siwach scoring twice in the final quarter to secure the win after a tied game through three quarters.

In their third fixture, India edged out hosts Argentina 2-0 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. Kanika (44') scored India’s goal, and Lalrinpuii and Lalthantluangi sealed the win in the shootout.
