Apple on Tuesday unveiled its new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip, promising substantial gains in graphics performance, artificial intelligence (AI) processing and overall computing speed. The company said the new laptop delivers up to 30 per cent faster graphics performance and up to 25 per cent faster AI workloads compared with the previous-generation M5 model.

Targeted at college students, business professionals and creative users, the new MacBook Pro is designed to handle demanding workloads, from everyday productivity tasks to advanced graphics applications and AI-powered projects.

At the heart of the laptop is Apple's M6 chip, featuring a 12-core CPU that the company describes as having the world's fastest CPU core. The processor is paired with a 12-core GPU, designed to improve graphics rendering, system responsiveness and AI performance.

Apple said users upgrading from MacBook Pro models equipped with the M1 chip could see up to 11 times faster graphics performance and up to 13 times faster AI processing, highlighting the potential gains for those moving from older-generation devices.

The M6 chip also incorporates additional Neural Accelerators within the GPU, alongside a dual 16-core Neural Engine. These components are designed to accelerate on-device AI tasks, including Apple Intelligence features integrated across applications and macOS. The system can also support the local execution of large language models (LLMs), allowing compatible AI workloads to run directly on the device rather than relying entirely on cloud-based processing.

Apple said this approach can help users maintain greater privacy while working with AI applications. The laptop also features Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, offering updated wireless connectivity, while faster storage is intended to improve workflows involving large files, project exports and computationally intensive applications.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro will run macOS 27 and be available in space black and silver finishes. Pre-orders are scheduled to open on October 28, with sales beginning on November 6.

“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users — from college students, to business professionals across every industry, to multidisciplinary creators doing it all on one device,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple's vice president of Hardware Engineering.

The launch underscores Apple's focus on combining higher computing performance with on-device AI capabilities, as these features become increasingly important for professional and everyday laptop users.
