AMD, Meta Seal Long-Term Pact to Build 6-Gigawatt AI Supercomputing Infrastructure

New Delhi- US chipmaker AMD and social media major Meta on Tuesday announced a landmark multi-year partnership aimed at powering the next generation of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

As part of the agreement, AMD will deploy up to 6 gigawatts of its Instinct GPUs to support Meta’s rapidly expanding AI workloads. The collaboration deepens the strategic relationship between the two companies by aligning their silicon, systems and software roadmaps to create AI platforms optimised for Meta’s large-scale operations.

The first phase will feature a custom AMD Instinct GPU based on the MI450 architecture, with shipments for the initial one-gigawatt deployment expected to begin in the second half of 2026. The systems will also be powered by 6th-generation AMD EPYC processors, codenamed “Venice,” and will operate on AMD’s ROCm software stack.

The AI infrastructure will be built using AMD’s Helios rack-scale architecture, co-developed with Meta under the Open Compute Project, enabling highly scalable and energy-efficient data centre deployments.

AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su said the partnership will deliver high-performance, power-efficient AI infrastructure tailored to Meta’s evolving needs. Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the long-term alliance will help the company diversify its computing stack while scaling AI capabilities more efficiently.

Beyond GPUs, the partnership also expands cooperation around AMD EPYC processors. Meta has already deployed millions of EPYC CPUs along with large volumes of AMD Instinct MI300 and MI350 GPUs across its global data centres. Meta will also be a lead customer for AMD’s upcoming 6th-generation EPYC chips, including “Venice” and “Verano,” designed to deliver improved performance with better cost and energy efficiency.

Under the deal, AMD has issued Meta a performance-based warrant for up to 160 million shares of AMD common stock. These shares will vest in stages, starting with the first one-gigawatt shipment and scaling up as deployments approach six gigawatts, subject to shipment, pricing and technical milestones.

AMD’s Executive Vice President and CFO Jean Hu said the agreement is expected to generate strong multi-year revenue growth while reinforcing AMD’s long-term financial outlook.
