I am proud of you all: PM Modi to students during IIT Delhi convocation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi as the chief guest and urged graduating students to look beyond their degrees and use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the country.

More than 3,000 students, including 587 PhD scholars, received their degrees during the convocation.

Congratulating the graduates, Modi said their achievement was a matter of pride not only for their families but also for the country.

“The way your families are feeling proud today, I am also proud of you all. You are not just taking a degree, but taking forward the dream of doing something for the country,” the Prime Minister said.

During the ceremony, Modi also presented IIT Delhi’s prestigious academic honours to students who excelled in their respective programmes. The awards included the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medal.

In a lighter moment, the Prime Minister acknowledged the strong performance of women students at the institute.

“If some daughters were meritorious students, then it would have been much better. Sorry, not just some but many,” he said, drawing a response from the audience.

### From IIT Delhi to the next chapter

Reflecting on the emotions surrounding graduation, Modi said students were likely to be thinking about very different aspects of their future — from jobs and salaries to startups and moving to new cities.

“All of you are gathered here today, but there must be something going on in your hearts. Now, I am not Baba Bageshwar, but there must be something going on,” he said humorously.

He noted that while each student would follow a different career path, the graduates would share a common sense of looking back at their journey from their first day at IIT Delhi to the day of convocation.

“You must be feeling satisfied by your journey from orientation to convocation. You all should cherish this moment,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also encouraged the graduates to remember the people who supported them during their years at the institute.

He said their friends, teachers and support staff often become like family during campus life, and that graduates would look back on these relationships with gratitude whenever life gave them an opportunity to reflect on their journey.

### IIT Delhi gets new AI supercomputing facility

During his visit, Modi also virtually inaugurated ‘Param Pragya’, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.

The facility is expected to strengthen the institute’s capabilities in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary research.

The new computing infrastructure is aimed at supporting researchers and students working on computationally intensive projects and could provide additional capacity for developing applications involving AI and large-scale data processing.

The inauguration came as IIT Delhi continues to expand its research capabilities in emerging technologies, giving graduates and researchers access to infrastructure designed to support work at the intersection of computing, science and engineering.

For the graduating students, however, the convocation marked the beginning of a new phase — one in which the knowledge gained at IIT Delhi will increasingly be tested through real-world challenges and opportunities.
